SFGP Newsletter policy approved by the CC, 6/8/05 Timing: The newsletter draft go out to the active list on a set day every week. The editor should choose the day. Once the date is set for draft distribution, it should be adhered to as much as possible. Folks on the active list should have 24 hours to make suggestions. If the draft is sent out on a set date, then folks should be aware to check their mail and respond in time. If someone wants to be on the edit list, they should join the active list--the editor should not have to send this out to lots of individuals each week. The final version is sent out by the editor on a set day, a day or so after the draft is distributed and all edits are made. Ideally, the date will be mid week or earlier, so we can promote weekend events and give folks enough time to plan to attend them. Content: The purpose of the SFGP newsletter is to inform interested parties about the goings-on of the Green Party. This includes informing the public about Green Party events and activities, and providing links to stories that positively promote the Green party and the work of Green party activists. Under no circumstances should anything that puts the SFGP or the Green Party in general in a bad light be included. News: priority should be given to news items that mention Greens and the Green party. Events: working group events and meetings should always be included. It is incumbent on each WG to post info where the editor can get to it without doing lots of searching- either the website, active list or added as an edit to the draft. Non-Green party events should be listed if they are compatible with Green interests (anti-war marches, activist-oriented films, cultural events, etc.) and there is room after the Green priority events are included. Endorsement should not be required to list non-green events as long as they are consistent with our values; it's the editor's discretion. Requests to add info to the draft should be honored if at all possible, assuming they are consistent with the guidelines above.
