1) Grassroots Democracy:

A) What are your thoughts on Instant Runoff Voting, and District Elections? How have they worked to date? What would you change in
the future? What about Proportional Representation?

San Francisco's Ranked Choice Voting system has helped
voters express their true preferences and encourages
more positive campaigns. District elections have also
strengthened neighborhood representation by making
supervisors more accountable to the communities they serve.
I support improving voter education so Ranked Choice Voting
is easier to understand, and I am open to exploring
forms of proportional representation that could make our
democracy more representative and participatory.

2) Ecological Wisdom: Please outline your view of the major environmental and ecological issues facing San Francisco and your
proposed policies to address them.

San Francisco must address climate resilience, water management, and the protection of open space.
I support preserving Sunset Dunes Park as a car-free coastal space that strengthens
community and protects our shoreline. I also want the city to expand rainwater
capture and green infrastructure to recharge the Westside groundwater basin and
reduce sewage overflows during heavy storms.

3) Social Justice:

A) What is your assessment of homelessness in San Francisco, and what solutions do you propose?

Homelessness in San Francisco is both a housing and community crisis.
Too many people - especially families and seniors - are falling through the cracks.
I support creating small house villages and other humane, community-based housing
options that can be built quickly and help people stabilize. Right now there are not
enough shelter beds in San Francisco, and too often people are sent to other cities
just to find a place to sleep. We should be taking care of our own residents here,
while also expanding permanently affordable housing so people can stay in San Francisco.

B) What are your views on housing affordability, what public sector strategies have worked, which have failed, and what are your proposals?

Housing affordability is personal for me. I grew up with a single mom who worked full time,
and we still relied on HUD housing. That's why I will always fight for families and seniors
to be able to stay in San Francisco.

What works is permanently affordable housing - community land trusts, co-ops,
and strong tenant protections. I don't believe just upzoning for market-rate
housing will solve affordability on its own. We should build along transit,
but with a focus on truly affordable homes and community needs.
San Francisco should be a place where all people can live

+ - ?
[ ] [ x ] [ ] Building more market rate housing will lower housing costs for current SF residents
[ x] [ ] [ ] Impacts of all new development should be paid for in advance by fees on developers

[ x ] [ ] [ ] Flipping taxes on housing speculation
[ ] [ ] [ x] 10-year waiting period before corporate and nonresident owners can sell purchased housing properties
[ ] [ ] [ x] Condo conversion is currently too difficult

4) Nonviolence: What are your solutions for SFPD accountability while making the streets safer?

Public safety and accountability go hand in hand. I strongly believe in beat cops who are part of the neighborhood. When I first started living in the Outer Sunset,
there was a beat cop named Mike on Judah Street. Everyone knew him, and he knew the community.
That kind of presence builds trust and helps prevent problems before they start.

We also need real accountability, with clear standards and transparency when misconduct occurs.
For street safety, I support more traffic enforcement, including motorcycle officers
rotating through high-risk intersections to address reckless driving.
Safer streets come from both community trust and consistent enforcement.

[x ] [ ] [ ] Prioritize SFPD enforcement of moving violations
[ x ] [ ] [ ] Support expansion of foot patrols

[ x ] [ ] [ ] Prosecution of SFPD officers involved in violet attacks on, and fatal shooting deaths of, SF residents and visitors
[ x ] [ ] [ ] End cash bail for nonviolent crimes
[ x ] [ ] [ ] Cut police funding and increase social program spending, and establish community control of neighborhood policing

5) Decentralization:

A) What are your thoughts on the Kaufman Charter of 1996? Does it need revisiting? Would you support replacing the Strong Mayor system
with commissions where the majority of members are appointed by the
Board of Supervisors, or directly elected?

I think it's worth revisiting. The strong mayor system can feel too top-down, and in a city like San Francisco, neighborhoods should have more of a voice.

I want to see more balance, with decisions shaped by the people in our communities,
not just from the top down.

+ - ?
[ x ] [ ] [ ] Elected Rent Board
[ x ] [ ] [ ] Elected Public Utility Board
[ x ] [ ] [ ] Bring the Housing Authority under the Board of Supervisors
[ x ] [ ] [ ] Will you create formal district councils to advise you?

B) The city currently uses non-profits to provide social services. Do you think this is an appropriate model? Why or why not?

Non-profits play an important role in delivering social services,
especially because they are often rooted in the community and can
respond quickly to local needs.

At the same time, the system needs more accountability
and coordination to make sure services are actually reaching people and working effectively.

I think the city should continue partnering with non-profits,
but with clearer standards, transparency, and better oversight.
The goal should be a system that is community-based, but also consistent, effective,
and focused on real outcomes for the people who need help.

[ x] [ ] [ ] Expand Participatory Budgeting to at least 5% of the District Budget
[ x] [ ] [ ] Charter amendment allowing voters to choose the replacement of an elected official being recalled on the same ballot as the recall vote
[ x] [ ] [ ] Immediately implement open-source voting system for SF elections

6) Community Based Economics: What economic policies, including taxation and land use, would you propose that would drive capital into
our communities and keep that capital here for residents?

I believe in building an economy that keeps wealth in our communities.
Community land trusts are a big part of that, because they keep land and
housing permanently affordable and locally controlled.

I also want to start a cooperative business initiative.
There are a lot of smart, hardworking people who don't have the financial
resources to start a business. Co-ops create a pathway for ownership, stability,
and local job growth.

I saw this firsthand working at Other Avenues for 16 years.
We were able to buy our building, stay financially stable,
and didn't lay off a single worker during COVID.

We can support this with policies that prioritize land for community ownership
and use taxes and incentives to discourage speculation and support local businesses.

If we invest in co-ops and community ownership, we can create an economy
that works for the people who actually live in the neighborhood, not just outside investors.

7) Feminism: Do you believe women are underrepresented in city government? If so, why do you believe this is the case? Is this a
bad thing, and if so, what would you do to remedy the situation?

Yes, I absolutely think women are underrepresented in city government, and that's a problem.
As the father of two daughters, it matters to me that they grow up in a city where leadership
reflects them and their voices are heard.

A big part of it is access running for office takes time, money, and support,
and not everyone has that. I think we need to make it easier for more women to
step into leadership, especially at the neighborhood level, and build from there.

When more voices are at the table, we make better decisions for everyone.

[ ] [ ] [ x ] Require parental notification for minors seeking an abortion

8) Respect for Diversity: Tell us what you believe are the best and the worst aspects of San Francisco's diversity. How would you try to
protect the best while trying to change the worst?

San Francisco's diversity is one of its greatest strengths.
It's in our neighborhoods, our small businesses, our arts,
and the way people from different backgrounds live side by side.
That mix of cultures and voices is what makes
the city feel alive and creative.

The challenge is that not everyone gets to stay.
Rising costs and displacement mean we're at risk of
losing the very communities that make San Francisco
what it is.

Diversity doesn't mean much if only certain people can afford to live here.
To protect what's best, we need to keep people in their neighborhoods through affordable housing, support for small and local businesses, and community spaces where people can connect.

9) Global and Personal Responsibility:

A) What are your thoughts on the Board of Supervisors taking positions on state, national and international issues?

Our job is to take care of the people here in San Francisco first. That has to be the priority.

At the same time, we're all connected. We're guests on this planet, and when there's a chance to stand up for people - even with a small vote - I think that matters. San Francisco is made up of people from all over, and sometimes those votes reflect who we are as a city.

But it can't come at the expense of doing the real work at home. We have to stay focused on our neighborhoods and the people who live here.

B) Please describe how you make your political decisions. What is the main basis for your decision making (e.g., consultation with your
constituents, political consultants, colleagues, unions, businesses,
donors, or your gut feelings)?

I want to listen. I talk to as many people as possible, because it's important to hear different perspectives. Even someone you might disagree with can have a good idea.

I listen to residents, small businesses, and people in the community to understand what's really going on. Then I take all of that in and trust my gut to make the decision that feels right for the community.
